Abstract

During the Cold War, the United States of America deployed anti-missile defense systems within its territory on the pretext of neutralizing the missile and nuclear threats of Soviet Union. By the end of the Cold War and the decline of the Soviet threat, Washington proposed the threat of the emerging missile countries and declared neutralizing this threat as its purpose for deploying missile defense systems. In the meanwhile, many studies written about the purpose of missile defense systems also claim that the U.S deployed these systems to cope with emerging missile countries. However, some countries, including Russia deny these claims and believe that the U.S. leaders have efforts to achieve strategic superiority through the inefficient strategic balance. The present descriptive- analytical paper attempts to show that while it is true that one of the purposes of the U.S for deploying missile defense systems is dealing with emerging missile countries but the main goal is eliminating the strategic balance. In fact it interprets the U.S. objectives of these systems in a more strategic framework. Therefore, The main question this paper wants to answer is “How do the anti-missile systems Influence on Strategic balance of nuclear?". In this way the main hypothesis of the paper is " the defensive systems create challenges for strategic nuclear balance by challenging Russia invasion strength, deepening arms gap, providing space superiority possibility, promoting defense systems, tracing long- range missiles ,and having impact on the threshold level of opponent dissatisfaction.
