Abstract

The aim of this research is to examines the factors affecting the development of Iran-Iraq trade relations in the analytical context of soft power and seeks to answer the question of what effect the economic components of Iran's soft power have had on the level of Iran-Iraq trade relations. From an analytical point of view, it is expected that each of the economic components of soft power will play a very important role in the development of Iran-Iraq relations, and the improvement of each of these components will lead to the development of Iran-Iraq trade relations. To answer the main research question and test the hypothesis, firstly, a comprehensive analysis of soft power and its economic aspects is presented, and then with the statistics of the economic components of soft power, the data for the years 1989-2020 using an autoregression with distribution Lags (ARDL) has been analyzed. The results of the research, while confirming the positive relationship between the soft power components of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the development of trade relations with Iraq, indicate that the development of trade relations between Iran and Iraq and an influential presence in the international arena require an increase in soft power, especially in the governance components, Investing abroad and developing business relations. The improvement of each of these components, while improving the soft power of the Islamic Republic of Iran, plays a positive role in the development of trade relations with Iraq.
